The Cubs Master the Royal and Ancient Game

Our Cubs had the chance to emulate Luke Donald when we were joined by Katie Dawkins, PGA Pro from the Cowdray Park Golf Club. Katie enthusiastically introduced us to the game in the indoor setting of the Tauntons’ College Hall. The Cubs putted and then drove with increasing confidence, to great effect and with perfect photo finishes 🙂

Cubs: The Fantastic Five Magic up Hogwarts

Here’s a report on the Southampton City Cub Scrapheap Challenge by Captain Ned

The five crafty cubs that took on the challenging competition of scrapheap challenge were me (Ned), Mathew, Jay, Fraser and Quinn.

What we did

First of all, we got set a theme [this time it was harry potter]. Subsequently we discussed what we will make and we all agreed on Hogwarts .

We were given a pile of junk in the middle of the hall and we set off.

Our design

We had lots of sections the sections were Hogwarts, swamp, vegetable patch, mini tower, rocky zone and a field what made us seem strong. We spread around the sections.

Best of all we were 2nd

Sailing Cubs

A group of our Cubs took part in a Sailing Taster session at the Hamble River Club yesterday evening. A big “thank you” to Peggy, Geoff and James from the Club who arranged and ran the session for us and, as you’ll see in the photos, our Cubs had a great time mastering the Optimist Dinghys!

Cubs Go Wild at Longleat

Sixteen of our Cubs joined 4,500 Cubs and Beavers from all over Hampshire for a day out at Longleat. The lions were a bit lethargic but the Cubs were certainly not!

We conquered the Adventure Castle, navigated the Maze, laughed at a footballing parrot, strolled through Longleat House, took part in a Guiness Book of Record attempt on the biggest ever Grand Howl and, of course, drove through the Safari Park.

Here’s the photos

Fabulous 14th Footballers

Ok, so we didn’t win the trophy – the 22nd beat the 2nd on penalties in the final – but our Cubs showed plenty of commitment, determination and skill.

Our A team (Panthers) took part in a series of closely fought games, with memorable goals from Toby and an unconventional but very well deserved goal from Ned.

Our B team (Pumas) showed fantastic spirit – playing against older and bigger Cubs, they never gave up and kept fighting right to the final whistle in every game.

In the end it wasn’t the 14th’s year but the Leaders and Parents were really proud of the way our Cubs conducted themselves. Well done to all our Cub footballers – and here’s looking to next year!

The One-Armed Bandit Strikes!

Our Brave Yellow Sixer didn’t let a little thing like two broken fingers – broken earlier that day – stop him from joining twenty other excited Cubs for our Bowling Evening at AMF, Eastleigh.

We did have Strikes and Spares a-plenty as both Cubs and Young Leaders demonstrated considerable skill and concentration.

Many Cubs had never bowled before – lots would love to do it again!
